SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
Teaching and Training
Designed, budgeted, and built the Tufts University Electronic Music
Lab, a joint project between the Computer Engineering and Music Departments.
Developed and taught courses in ear training, keyboard skills and MIDI
skills to the first year of students using the lab.
Results: Established the concept and base which grew to full
function and service laboratory that included full-time lecturers, a
significant increase in the curriculum and substantial increase in equipment.
Designed curriculum and taught an active server page development course
at Northeastern University that included HTML, web-enabled database
access and programming with Visual Basic script. Developed an on-line
companion for the course with class notes, assignments, assignment upload
and grade communication tools.
Results: Education of 16 adult learners from corporate and business
backgrounds. Over 70% of the students responded that the course design
and instruction were excellent and exceeded their expectations.
Built a music production company that attracts artists, organizes content;
writes, composes, and arranges music; records vocals and instrumentation;
mixes, masters the recordings; prepares art direction, packaging, graphics
and branding; duplicates, and markets CD's. Discovered, managed and
produced over a dozen Boston based hip-hop artists from all ethnic backgrounds
and education. Provided mentoring to artists that has enabled them to
be more professional in their music careers.
Results: Recorded and released 3 full-length CDs. Composed and
produced 6 full-length CDs spanning rock, pop, dance, hip-hop, rap,
reggae, salsa and neo-Classical/neo-Romantic genres. Client list has
tripled in the last year.
Internet Technologies
Founded, hired, trained and managed user experience team with a staff
that included designers and psychologists. Led focus groups and usability
testing with several web applications.
Results: Solid information architecture in both the data structure
and the user interface. All final designs incorporated the learning
from the focus group avoiding the pitfalls exposed in usability testing
and evaluation.
Provided hands-on team leadership to confused and frustrated members
of the user experience team to keep communication flowing and work being
completed during periods of extremely tight deadlines, an uncertain
financial future and frequent management change.
Results: Met deadlines and achieved unprecedented cooperation
between groups. Eliminated the severe staff turnover problem for the
company.
Designed, developed and presented product demonstrations of multiple
web applications to investors and customers.
Results: Achieved second round funding of $8 M. Signed fifteen
early-adopter customers for a web B2B application during the extreme
down market for dot.com companies.
Music Industry
Composed, authored, performed, produced, designed and released: Nineteen,
A Cradle for Your Soul in the Northeast and the Midwest. Booked tour
in support of sales of the record with the aid of an initial radio campaign
with the unheard of success of 65% add-rate to college and AAA stations.
Results: Critical acclaim in Boston, New York and Cincinnati
newspapers and magazines. Sold 600 copies. Enabled the creation of the
label, Indecent Music and Indecent Music Publishing, ASCAP.
Produced, budgeted, designed, released and distributed 10,000 copies
of Mary Jane Nation, a compilation of Boston-based artists in multiple
genres to build community between artists of multiple races and economic
backgrounds.
Results: Growth of the Indecent Music mailing list to over 1000
individuals. Exposed the need for quality Boston-based hip-hop and urban
music releases which guided the subsequent growth and direction of the
Label.
Graphic Design
Designed and produced FruityLoops print marketing
materials for Cakewalk Software, the British company's U.S. distribution
channel.
Results: FruityLoops 3 quickly became an industry leader for
loop and sample-based music creation tools
